Meet Saltwater Sean: From Nova Scotia Adventures to Ireland’s Wild Coast

For Sean McMullen, adventure often starts by looking a little closer.

Better known online as Saltwater Sean, the Nova Scotia-based underwater explorer, photographer, and content creator has built a community around discovering the places, stories, and hidden treasures that can be found both above and below the surface.

From underwater exploration and historic bottle finds to metal detecting, lake cleanups, coastal hikes, and road trips around the province, Sean has a knack for finding something worth exploring wherever he goes.

And now, he and Lindsay are taking that curiosity across the Atlantic.

Meet Saltwater Sean

Sean's adventures are a little different from the usual outdoor story.

Sometimes, they involve hiking a coastal trail or exploring somewhere new in Nova Scotia. Other times, they involve putting on a dive suit and seeing what has been hiding beneath the surface of a lake for decades.

Through his photography and videos, Sean shares the discoveries he makes along the way, from old bottles and forgotten objects to the unexpected finds that make exploring underwater so rewarding.

His goal is simple: to inspire people to get outside and explore what's in their own backyard.

For Sean and Lindsay, that spirit of exploration extends beyond one particular type of adventure. They share a love of travel, hiking, the ocean, paddling, road trips, and finding beautiful places that are a little off the beaten path.

Whether it's a weekend exploring Nova Scotia or a day spent discovering somewhere completely new, they're always looking for the next place to explore.

From Nova Scotia to Ireland

This September, that next adventure is taking them much farther from home.

Sean and Lindsay are heading to Ireland, travelling from Dublin to Galway, Sligo, and the Causeway Coast.

Along the way, they'll be hiking scenic trails, exploring rugged coastlines, chasing waterfalls, and looking for the hidden gems that make travelling somewhere new so memorable.

It's the kind of trip that calls for plenty of time outside and a willingness to embrace whatever the day brings. And, as anyone who spends time outdoors in Atlantic Canada knows, being prepared for changing weather is part of the adventure.

Getting Ready for the Adventure

Before heading overseas, Sean and Lindsay stopped by The Trail Shop to get ready for their trip.

We’re excited to partner with them as they take their adventures overseas and put their Trail Shop gear to the test throughout Ireland.

From trails and coastal walks to long days spent exploring somewhere new, they'll be sharing their experience along the way and showing what outdoor adventures look like from their perspective.

For us, it's a natural partnership. The Trail Shop has always been about getting outside, finding your next adventure, and having the right gear to make the most of it.

And Sean and Lindsay are already doing exactly that.

Adventure Starts Close to Home

One of the things we love about Sean's story is that his adventures don't depend on travelling somewhere far away.

Some of the most interesting places he's explored are right here in Nova Scotia.

A hidden underwater find. An unfamiliar trail. A small coastal town you've driven past a dozen times. A lake that looks completely different once you see what's beneath the surface.

There is always something new to discover.

Ireland might be the next destination, but the idea behind Sean's adventures applies anywhere: get outside, stay curious, and see where the day takes you.

We'll be following along with Sean and Lindsay as they explore Ireland this September, and we can't wait to see what they discover.
